Free peer tutoring · Waxhaw, NC

Free tutoring, from students who just sat in that seat.

Honors Learning Academy pairs K–12 students with high-achieving peer tutors, in everyday subjects and in tracks most programs never touch, like pre-law and pre-med. No cost, online or in person.

Two ways in

Whether you need a tutor or want to be one.

Most peer programs blur the two together. We keep them separate, so you land exactly where you should.

For families & students

Request a tutor in any subject we cover. Tell us the grade and the goal, and we handle the match. It stays free start to finish.

Ask about AP exam prep

What a session looks like.

One on one.

A tutor and a student, working through the material at the student's pace.

Small group.

A few students on the same topic, when a group makes it click faster.

Homework help.

Bring an assignment that looks confusing, and leave with it completely clear.

Test & AP prep.

Focused sessions before a unit test, a final, or an AP exam.

Getting a tutor takes three steps.

Tell us what you need

Fill out a short request with the grade, the subject, and when you're free. Two minutes, no account to make.

We make the match

We pair your student with a tutor who knows both the material and the curriculum, usually within a few days.

Start learning

Meet online or in person and keep going for as long as it helps. It stays free the entire time.

Student-founded, and proud of it.

Most of our tutors finished the same class a year or two ago. They don't just know the answer, they remember exactly where it stopped making sense.

Careful with your kid, honest about the rest.

Tutor standards

  • Approved before matched. No tutor meets a student until we have reviewed and approved their application.

  • They teach only what they know cold. Tutors list the subjects they are confident in and we match to that list.

  • Every session goes on the record. Date, subject, and hours, logged in the portal.

  • We collect only what we need. Names and an email to make the match, nothing sold, nothing shared.

  • A real person answers. Email a founder and you get a reply.

How we handle your information

Genuinely free

Private tutoring runs $40 to $80 an hour. Ours is free, and always will be. No fees, no upsells, no paid tiers.

On the record

Tutors log every session, so volunteer hours and your student's progress are both tracked.

Now the practical questions.

Does my student have to be struggling?
No. Some students come to catch up. Others come to get ahead, whether that's AP prep, a specialized track, or staying sharp over a break.
How often do sessions happen?
As often as it helps. Once you're matched, you and your tutor set the schedule between you, and you can change it as the term goes on.
What if the tutor isn't the right fit?
Tell us and we'll match you with someone else. No awkward conversation, and no cost either way.
Can we get help right before a test?
Yes, and families do. Just know a match takes a few days, so the earlier you ask, the more time your tutor has to actually prepare.
